Incoming Freshmen

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers a variety of academically competitive scholarships for incoming freshmen. As an incoming freshman, you may apply for 2008-2009 scholarships using the online scholarship application located on http://kanga.tamucc.edu/development/scholarship/apply.html. Please note that the scholarship application process is separate from the online admission application process.

Students on campusPriority deadline for incoming freshmen scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year is December 1, 2007. All applications received after this deadline will be considered on a funds-available basis.

Incoming freshmen can apply for the following programs described below.  Read the instructions for each program carefully and be sure to submit all of the required materials.  Apply only if you are eligible.

Academic Achievement
Academic Achievement Scholarships are $8,000 awards disbursed at a rate of $2,000 per year for four academic years. This scholarship is open to all incoming freshman students and is not restricted to any particular college major. Decisions will be based on your academic standing, class rank, test scores, enrollment in AP classes and recommendation letters.

The top four Academic Achievement Scholarship recipients will be chosen to compete for the President’s Council Scholarship. The President’s Council Scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship award offered by the University. It provides a $24,000 scholarship disbursed at a rate of $6,000 per year for four years to one outstanding individual. The top four candidates will be notified by mail after the Academic Achievement selection process is complete.  The recipient of the President’s Council scholarship is chosen through an interview process conducted on campus.

Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Graduate from high school by August 2008; and
  2. Rank in the top 15% of your high school senior class; or
  3. Score 1100 or higher on the SAT (without writing) or
  4. Score 24 or higher on the ACT.

Student Leader
The Student Leader Scholarship Program was created to recognize and reward students who have demonstrated leadership qualities within and outside the school environment. Applicants must have a satisfactory conduct record.  Recipients of the Academic Achievement scholarship are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Graduate from high school by August 2008; and
  2. Rank in the top 50% of your high school senior class; and
  3. Demonstrate leadership and community service.

Rising Scholars
The Rising Scholars Scholarship was created to provide additional assistance to students demonstrating financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 

Eligibility Requirements:
  1. Graduate from high school by August 2008; and
  2. Show demonstrated financial need as determined by the 2008-2009 FAFSA; and
  3. Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident; and
  4. Rank in the top 25% of your high school senior class.
