Frequently Asked Questions

1.

When is the scholarship deadline?

Incoming freshmen:  December 1, 2007 (priority deadline)
*Applications received after this date will be considered on a funds-available basis.

Current undergraduate & transfer students: February 1, 2008.

Graduate students:  Check with the Office of Graduate Studies & Research.

2. How do I apply for scholarships?

Students will apply online at http://www.tamucc.edu/scholarships.

The online scholarship application will be available beginning October 1, 2007.  No paper applications will be accepted for the 2008-2009 academic year – everything must be submitted online.

3. Do I have to be admitted to the University prior to applying for scholarships?

Your first step in applying for scholarships should be applying for admission to the University. You will not be awarded a scholarship unless you have been admitted.

4.

Am I eligible to apply for scholarships?

Incoming Freshmen:
To apply for the Academic Achievement Scholarship, you must meet one of the following three requirements:  top 15% of high school senior class, 24 or higher on ACT, 1100 or higher on SAT (without the writing section).

To apply for the Student Leader Scholarship, you must be in the top 50% of high school senior class and provide the materials required of this scholarship program.

To apply for the Rising Scholars Scholarship, you must submit a 2008-2009 FAFSA by March 15, 2008.

Current Undergraduate or Transfer Students:
You must submit an application under the General Scholarship Program for current undergraduate and transfer students. You are not required to apply for scholarships individually, but can apply for all of them through the General Scholarship Program. In order to be eligible, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and plan to be at least a full-time student (12 hours per semester) if awarded.

5.

Can I get a scholarship just based on my ACT/SAT test scores, GPA, or other measure of my academic performance?

Scholarship awards are based on a student’s overall scholarship application (i.e., test scores, class rank, essay, resume, leadership, etc.) and not just on a single criterion.

6.

How will I be notified if I am/am not awarded a scholarship?

You will be notified by mail or email if you are or are not selected to receive a scholarship. Correct mailing and email addresses should be submitted on the application.

7.

Can I be awarded for the full academic year or on a semester basis?

Scholarships are awarded for the academic year and not for one semester only.  For example, if you are awarded a $1,000 scholarship, you will receive $500 in the fall semester and $500 in the spring semester.

8.

What if I did not submit my scholarship application by the deadline?

A&M-Corpus Christi will accept scholarship applications throughout the year, even after the deadline. But, any scholarship application submitted after the deadline is only considered on a funds-available basis. This means that your application will only be considered if the University has scholarship funding leftover for the year, either from a student that was awarded that did not enroll in classes or if we receive additional scholarship donations throughout the year. There is no guarantee that the University will award any scholarships after the deadline.

9.

If I receive an outside scholarship from a club, high school booster organization, scholarship foundation, or other source external to the University, where do I (or the donor) send the scholarship check?

The scholarship check should be mailed to:

Scholarship Office
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
6300 Ocean Drive, Unit 5747
Corpus Christi, Texas 78412

The check of accompanying letter should reference the student’s name, social security number, the semester for which the funds are intended (e.g., for fall 2008 only, for both fall 2008 and spring 2009, etc.), whether additional funds will be forwarded for the academic year. In other words, is the scholarship a one-time only award or just the first installment of the scholarship?

10. How do I apply for scholarships if I am a graduate or post-baccalaureate student?

If you are a graduate student, visit the “Graduate Students” link on the main scholarship website to download a scholarship application and learn about possible scholarship opportunities.

If you are a post-baccalaureate student pursuing an undergraduate degree, you should complete the online scholarship application available on the “Current Undergraduate and Transfer Students” link.
