Athletic Giving: Tarpon Foundation

The Tarpon Foundation is the primary fundraising arm of the Intercollegiate Athletic Department at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Membership is made of loyal Islander supporters who provide financial resources for nearly 200 student-athletes competing in 14 NCAA Division I sports.

Tarpon Foundation contributions provide scholarships for young men and women enabling them to succeed in the classroom and during athletic competition. Members enjoy numerous benefits including priority seating and parking at the American Bank Center, newsletters, special invitations, quarterly luncheons, and other benefits.

In order for Islander Athletics to build on its early success, it is essential to develop a strong base of support.

What's in a Name?
Many South Texas sports fans have some memory of the University of Corpus Christi (UCC) Tarpons. Our University fielded football, basketball, tennis, and baseball teams during different times from 1947-1973.

After a 25 year hiatus, the A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders began competing in the Fall of 1998. In an effort to re-connect with UCC alumni, the University administration decided to name the athletic department’s fundraising arm the Tarpon Foundation.

A Short History
The Tarpon Foundation, like the entire athletic program, was started from scratch in 1998. Since then, a number of volunteers made of alumni and friends have assisted in the Athletic Department’s fundraising efforts. A volunteer board consisting of 15 members has been instrumental in membership growth.
