Making waves in athletics
Women’s basketball racked up another first for the University this season when the Islanders topped off a best-ever 23-7 season with a trip to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Coach Jodi Kest’s team ambushed the Fresno State Bulldogs 56-53 behind forward Terra Andrews’ 20-point, 12-rebound performance before bowing out in the second round.
The Islanders’ softball team is picked to win its third straight Big South Championship after going 39-21 last season and making its second straight postseason appearance before losing to Houston 1-0 in the first-round of the NCAA Regional.
Hours after setting five school records and taking four first-place medals at the Texas Invitational, the Islander track and field team narrowly averted tragedy when four members were injured in an accident as the team returned home from Austin on Saturday, March 26.
