Spirits High at COB Basketball Bash

By James Barnhardt

Students at basketball bash For the second year in a row the College of Business (COB) Basketball Bash rallied students, faculty and alumni to show their support of the Islander basketball teams and games. This year’s bash was held during Homecoming Week 2003 and was a rousing success. The College sponsored both the Islander women’s game against the University of Texas Pan American and the men’s game against Savannah State.

Girl at basketball bashCoca-Cola, International Bank of Commerce, and Onyx Petroleum received Business Spirit Awards, and high-spirited student organizations like Delta Sigma Pi, the Management Information Club, and the Student Accounting Society were recognized. Generous donations from community sponsors enabled COB to award bookstore scholarships to two students during the games. Everyone enjoyed a barbecue in between the games, and the Homecoming King and Queen were crowned during the men’s game.

The hard work and dedication of Basketball Bash co-chairs Dr. Janet Tillinger and Dr. Greg Black, and that of other committee members, seems to be paying off in the establishment of this new tradition.
