Weil Gallery schedule for 1998-99

Oct. 22-Dec. 3, 1998
“Body/Spirit,” curated by Jim Edwards. An exhibition of work by contemporary artists from Central and South Texas (Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio) which deals with the human and/or animal physical and spiritual identity. Primarily drawing their inspiration from the mystery of life and death, these artists explore the various realms of transformation. Artists to be included are: Connie Arismendi, Austin; James Cobb, San Antonio; Melissa Miller, Austin; and Kathy Vargas, San Antonio.

Jan. 21-March 3, 1999
“Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Faculty Exhibition” featuring work by Mark Anderson, Bruno Andrade, Jim Edwards, Louis Katz, Greg Reuter and Barbara Riley.

March 11-31, 1999
“Rising Star 2,” the second juried exhibition of art by high school students from Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Calallen,Gregory-Portland and Tuloso-Midway. All media will be featured.

April 8-May 5, 1999
“Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Student Art Exhibition.” Juror to be selected.

The exhibitions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call Mark Anderson, 994-5835.


University Theatre 1998-99 season

Fall, 1998
“Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica) and Opera Arias.” Music by Giacomo Puccini, libretto by Giovacchino Forzano, staging by James W. Carlsen. This is a fund-raiser for Student Financial Assistance and is co-sponsored by the theatre and music programs. Performances will be at 8 p.m., Nov. 12, 13 and 14, and 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Warren Theatre. All tickets are $15.

“The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Stories,” by John Scieszka, adapted and directed by James W. Carlsen. Readers’ theatre for children and adults, auditions will be from the readers’ theatre class. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Dec. 3, 4 and 5, and 2 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the Wilson Studio Theatre. General admission is $1.

Spring, 1999
“Working: A Musical,” from a book by Studs Terkel, adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers, Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor, directed by J. Don Luna. Auditions will be held Jan. 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilson Studio Theatre. Performances are at 8 p.m. on March 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13, and at 2 p.m. on March 7 and 14 in the Wilson Studio Theatre. General admission is $10.

“The Twilight of the Golds,” a contemporary drama by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Douglas C. Holcomb. Auditions are March 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilson Studio Theatre. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. on April 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24, and at 2 p.m. on April 18 and 25 in the Wilson Studio Theatre. General admission is $8.
