Inspiring the next generation-
The John W. Boatwright Memorial Scholarship Endowment

When John W. Boatwright was only 13 years old, he left home to pursue his education and build a better life for himself.

“Dad grew up poor, but ambitious,” Dr. Blair Sterba-Boatwright said of his father. “He always believed education was the key to success.”

Through hard work and the support of many kind individuals, Boatwright earned several degrees including his doctorate. “At every stage of his education people stepped in to help. He was very grateful,” Sterba-Boatwright said.

For the Boatwright family, establishing an endowed scholarship fund was a perfect way to honor Dr. Boatwright’s memory.

“We recognized the increasing cost of an education and knew students of A&M-Corpus Christi could benefit from this scholarship.” Mrs. Boatwright said.

“This scholarship is my dad’s indirect ‘thank you’ to those who helped him.” Sterba-Boatwright added.

One student touched by the Boatwright family’s support is Lindsey Smith, a junior nursing major from Portland, Texas. “The scholarship helped pay for tuition and nursing materials that I could not have afforded otherwise. Mrs. Boatwright’s generosity is inspiring and something I plan to carry forward into the future.”

The Endowed Scholarship Program enables donors to provide scholarships to deserving students. This perpetual gift defrays tuition costs, helping students to focus on their education and reach their full potential.
