A message from Dean of Business
Dr. Moustafa Abdelsamad
Fall 2004 marks the beginning of another year for our College, and we continue to seek ways to improve our operations and enhance the value of our education. New faculty include Dr. Donald R. Deis, the Ennis and Virginia C. Joslin Endowed Chair in Accounting. Other new members are Dr. Karen Loveland, assistant professor of marketing; Joseph Mollick, assistant professor of management information systems; Dr. W. Scott Sherman, assistant professor of management; and Dr. Taylor Stevenson, visiting assistant professor of economics.
The Internship Program provides our students an opportunity to experience real world problems and report on them under faculty supervision. This Fall 12 students were placed in organizations which include the Better Business Bureau, City of Portland, TOR Minerals, City of Corpus Christi, Fite and Wheeler, and others. Sixty interns were placed in 2003-2004.
Macroeconomics students will help teach economics in public schools this semester, supervised by our economics faculty and in conjunction with the Junior League.
The College hosted the Council of Texas Business Deans October 3-5, with 27 deans attending. The program included an update on AACSB accreditation standards and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s emphasis on accountability. Speakers included Dr. James Kallison, THECB, and Dr. Jerry Trapnell, AACSB International.
The College will sponsor the annual basketball bash on November 20, with HEB as a major sponsor. COB student organizations will contribute to local food banks and participate in spirit competition.
