A Message from University President Dr. Robert R. Furgason

Dr. FurgasonThe new semester is in full swing with the University’s fall enrollment at an all-time high once again. About 8,000 students have plunged into their studies in business, arts, humanities, education, science and nursing.

As our cover story suggests, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has enhanced its emphasis on the fine arts over the past couple of years. The dedication of our new entryway sculpture on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. will further announce our commitment to the arts. Its majestic 35-foot stainless steel wave-shape will add a new dimension to the skyline of Corpus Christi.

The University’s reputation is spreading. We were recently listed in The New York Times as a participant in the American Democracy Project, a national initiative to involve college students in civic activities. As part of this endeavor, our business management leadership class will be completely renovating the Lindale Senior and Recreational Center this fall.

Advisory council members involved in our $46 million endowed Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) are continuing to make international connections with world-renowned scientists.

Construction continues on the $18 million Harte Research Institute building and our 1,500-seat concert hall. A new classroom building is in design and ready for construction.

We will celebrate the completion of the Lee Plaza fountain in the heart of our campus on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. This welcoming, peaceful site is funded by donor Woo Sung Lee, a student from our University of Corpus Christi days.

Please visit the campus for one of our special dedications in October, and take some time to check out other exciting sites while you are here. Your continued involvement and support of our students and programs is what makes it all possible.
