Dean
of Science & Technology Dr. Diana Marinez
We’re bursting at the seams!
Total enrollment is up, freshman enrollment
is up and the nursing class will be the largest ever – 80
students, up from 50 last year. With an attrition rate of only
5 percent, we
also will be graduating
a large
nursing class
in the spring. The awarding of a $1.35 million National Science Foundation
grant will enable us to enhance our entire science and technology
infrastructure. Eventually, this will lead to a proposal to the
Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board for the approval of a doctoral program in computer
science.
Other developments include:
- The first Ph.D. Program in the College, Coastal and
Marine Earth System Science (working title), is expected to be approved
by the Regents
this fall,
and
we expect it to be operational by Fall 2004.
- Biology majors
interested in post baccalaureate doctoral and health professional programs
(including clinical lab sciences) now can major in
Biomedical Sciences.
- Nursing students can now get their Bachelor of Science
in Nursing (BSN) on a web-based delivery system called Eline, the first
degree totally
online for the University and the first generic BSN degree online in
the United States. The RN-BSN and Master of Science in Nursing Administration
are
also online.
Your generosity has helped make all of this happen by providing funds
for these programming needs as well as for student scholarships. Keep
giving
and keep in touch.
And I will leave you with this teaser...
Look out for the EarthMobile!
