Mutual Attraction:
Internships Bring Top Companies
and Students Together

Several major American companies received some extra help over the summer when six computer and mathematical science (CAMS) students from A&M-Corpus Christi interned in offices throughout Texas and in California. Under the mentorship of CAMS professor Dr. Carl Steidley and the University’s internship program, students were able to hone their talents and gain valuable experience at some of the largest corporations in the country.

Eric Garza - Advanced Acoustic Concepts, Naval Station Ingleside; network servers and software design development.

Kumaran Natarajan - Intel, San Diego, Calif.; virtual instrumentation and fabrication of computer chips.

Jack Johnson and Macej Golonka - USAA, San Antonio; statistical research.

Candelaria Perez - Dell Computers, Austin; software project planning analysis, program development and feasibility studies on new computer models.

Phillip Wilson - USAA, San Antonio; desktop hardware and software testing.

According to Steidley, the internship program not only benefits the student but the University as well.

“Students show an improvement of maturity in their classes after taking an internship and take on more of a leadership role in their research development classes,” Steidley said.
