Dean of Arts and Humanities Dr. Paul HainNew Community Involvement Most of the work of the College of Arts and Humanities revolves around the cycle of academic instruction. We welcome the new high school graduate into learning communities of linked courses and work to keep those courses fresh and alive; we advise students into majors appropriate to their abilities and interests; we challenge graduating seniors with capstone courses in their majors; and, finally, we honor the graduating seniors. Besides our involvement with students and their activities, both inside and outside the classroom, the College also has begun to reach out more to the community. July 2003 saw the first Band Camp hosted. A&M-Corpus Christi music faculty and leading local high school band directors conducted an intensive weeklong series of instrumental lessons and ensemble rehearsals, culminating in a public Friday night performance. Also in July, one of our graduate students working towards a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, Ms. Dawn Stubblefield, created the first high school debate camp on campus. As part of a three-year million-dollar Education Service Center project, fourteen theatre students, directed by Don Luna, Chair of the Department of Communications and Theatre, re-enacted historically authentic World War II scenes aboard the USS Lexington. True to the college mission, our faculty, staff and students are creating exciting learning environments that impact and enrich campus and community life. Your continued support helps us give our students the rich opportunities that are so important to their academic pursuits. |
