Athletic Director Dan Viola Go Islanders! Greetings from the Islanders! Our 2003-2004 seasons are just kicking off,
and if you haven’t seen our student-athletes live in action, I’d
like to personally invite you to join us and become part of the excitement
that is Islander Athletics. Last spring our Islander women’s softball program became an associate member of the Big South Conference. This incredible opportunity allowed them to win our first ever Conference Championship and gave the athletic department our first NCAA tournament qualifier. We are proud of the ladies and the excellent job they did representing our University. Of course, this doesn’t diminish our effort to find a conference home for all of our Islander athletic programs. Our ultimate goal is to pursue affiliate membership until we find one central conference where all of our programs can reside and compete. We were also pleased to announce that Marvin Collins, a former political consultant who grew up in Corpus Christi, donated a $1 million charitable annuity to the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Athletic Department. Mr. Collins’ gift will strengthen our ability to provide scholarships to student-athletes. Donations like these are extremely important because resources are the key to anything we do. We are grateful for the generosity of Mr. Collins and all of our athletics donors. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our alumni and fans for their continued support of our programs. |
