Bourque and Rogers Named
Scholar Student Athletes of Year

Blair Bourque of Taunton, Mass., and Kristin Rogers of Sand Springs, Okla., were named the fourth annual Flint Hills Resources Islander Male and Female Scholar Student-Athletes of the Year. The awards are given to the student-athletes who maintain high standards both on the playing field and in the classroom.

Bourque, a two-year letterman for the Islander baseball team, started 49 of 50 games as catcher and ended his playing career ranked third in career homeruns. He has been nominated for Verizon Academic All-America consideration, maintains a 3.81 grade point average and is completing his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology.

Rogers, the first to receive the award more than once, finished her basketball career by averaging 15.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She is the all-time Islander leader in points (1,459), rebounds (554), successful field goals (582) and free throws (286). Rogers graduated in May 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

“We are grateful to Flint Hills Resources for its support of our intercollegiate athletic program and for the sponsorship of these awards,” said Athletic Director Dan Viola. “These two student-athletes possess outstanding character and excelled both academically and in athletics.”
