Teens Learn Artistic Alternatives to Tagging at Graffiti Workshop

Kenneth Harrison of K Space Contemporary leads a Graffiti Art Project Workshop at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center as his son, Christopher, watches.

Around 25 teens designed stencils and learned non-destructive, non-permanent alternatives to tagging, including mud and moss at the Graffiti Art Project Workshop co-sponsored by the College of Education and Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center.

Tagging is defined as images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. The Graffiti Art Project is a community-based social action program for teens 14 and older to curb the graffiti problem in Corpus Christi by providing a legal avenue for artistic expression, while teaching them about the consequences and dangers of the crime.
