Coastal Bend Science Fair Held at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Science Fair

The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi College of Science and Technology hosted the 19th annual Coastal Bend Science Fair from Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29 in the University Center and the Moody Sustainers Field House.

The fair was the final competition for students who have competed in science fairs in their school districts and included kindergarten through eighth grade students from Corpus Christi and surrounding school districts. Exhibits were broken down by grade with approximately 800 students competing for ribbons and medals.

An overall winner selected from kindergarten through fourth grade received a trophy and a $1,000 scholarship to A&M-Corpus Christi. The overall winner for fifth through eighth grades received the Diana I. Marinez award, which includes a trophy and a $1,000 scholarship to the University.

The students prepared experiments relating to engineering/physical science, Earth science or life/health science utilizing the scientific method. Each student gave an oral presentation to a panel of judges to explain their experiment and findings.

More than 100 science and education majors helped with all aspects of the fair. Judges included scientists, engineers, faculty members, educators, college science students and community members with expertise in science.
