Outstanding Students, Advisors and Organizations Honored

The University’s outstanding students, advisors and student organizations were honored during the Student Affairs Leadership and Service Awards ceremony Thursday, April 19 in the University Center Legacy Room. Students, faculty and staff submitted nominations for various awards based on attributes that include campus involvement, volunteerism and school spirit. Award winner were:

Organization of the Year: India Student Association- This award recognizes a student organization that engages in membership development, conference participation, organizational goal setting and achievement, fundraising efforts, and community service. The organization also promotes Islander spirit and campus involvement to members.

Emerging Leader Award
: Dua Abudiab, sophomore chemistry major- This award honors a sophomore or junior student who exhibits leadership in campus activities, employment, and/or volunteer service with the University.

Spirit Award
: Seamus Nelson, senior communications major- This award recognizes the student who best demonstrates extraordinary school spirit and enthusiasm through participation in campus activities.

Advisor of the Year
: Dr. Philippe Tissot, assistant professor in the College of Science and Technology, Physical and Life Sciences- This award honors one student organization advisor for his or her energy, enthusiasm, and outstanding abilities that are the backbone of successful and dynamic student organizations.

Vice President for Student Affairs Impact Award
: Megan Thompson, senior communications major- This award recognizes the efforts of students who have a positive impact on the University community through campus involvement, leadership, and service.

Amigos de la Isla Award
: Crystal Seehorn, Community Outreach; and Dr. Scott Sherman, assistant professor in the College of Business- This award honors one faculty member and one staff member who have gone above and beyond their roles on campus to accomplish goals and serve students.

Also honored were the Student Employee of the Year, the Division Class Ring recipient and recipients of the Division of Student Affairs Scholarship.

: Tanya Lopez, junior media communications and business major.

The Division of Student Affairs Leadership Scholarship: Dua Abudiab, sophomore chemistry major; James Devlin, counselor education doctoral student; Sara Gold, junior biomedical science major; Chris Haderer, senior management major; Katherine Herrera, senior interdisciplinary studies major; Tiffany Herrera, junior biomedical science major; Shanelle Hill, senior marketing major; Phillip Levasseur, sophomore political science major; Andrea Salisbury, senior interdisciplinary studies major; and Tiera Wright, senior interdisciplinary studies major.
