Homecoming and Parents Week 2007
Record crowds turned out to celebrate Homecoming and Parents Week at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Jan. 29 through Feb. 3 This year’s week of activities was highlighted by the revival of the University’s Homecoming Parade.
Homecoming parades were an annual event at Corpus Christi University until much of the campus was destroyed by Hurricane Celia in 1970. In recognition of the contributions of alumni, the theme of the parade was “Treasure the Tradition.” More than 20 student and alumni groups participated in the parade. Winning floats were:
- Best Float: Delta Delta Delta
- Most Spirited Float: Alpha Gamma Delta
- Overall Winner- Gamma Phi Beta

The festivities celebrating the Island University ’s history and traditions were sponsored by the A&M-Corpus Christi Alumni Association, the Student Affairs Office, the Campus Activities Board, and the Student Government Association.
According to the Alumni Association, an estimated 30,000 students have graduated from the University since the University of Corpus Christi opened its doors in 1947. All graduates and former students from the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi are considered to be alumni.
