Go Center Training Session Stresses 'Closing the Gaps' Program

Luncheon for GoCenter
Students attended Go Center luncheon during day-long training.

More than 100 high school students from around the Coastal Bend participated in a Go Center training session at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach in June.

Go Centers are part of the U.S. Department of Education’s federally funded Title V Cooperative Grant and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s “Closing the Gaps” program. The aim is to increase student enrollments and success in Texas colleges and universities and help recruit students into higher education. The goal is to enroll 630,000 academically prepared students by 2015, 430,000 beyond the 200,000 expected to attend college at current rates.

Go Centers are located on middle and high school campuses where they serve as a point of coordination between students, P-12 counselors and institutions of higher education. At the Go Center, students have access to a variety of resources to help them better prepare and plan for college. The training session was conducted by the University and Del Mar College.
