Ocean Drive Gets Bright at Islander Lights Festivities The University will celebrate the first “Islander Lights” holiday festival Friday, Dec. 1 with a series of events from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The festivities begin near the Center for the Arts plaza with the unveiling of a new campus sculpture, “Muse at the Portal,” created by Jack Gron, Chair of the Art Department. A reception follows. From 6-7 p.m. the Office of Student Affairs will host the final campus push of the “Wishes and Dreams” toy drive at the University Services Center plaza. Donations of unwrapped, non-violent toys are being accepted. The drive and event are being coordinated by the Corpus Christi Police Department, Walgreens, Coca-Cola and Grande Communications. At around 7:15 p.m. President Flavius Killebrew will preside over the lighting of several campus buildings facing Ocean Drive. He will be joined by several dignitaries representing AEP Texas, Whataburger, Inc., and the Corpus Christi Police Department. AEP Texas provided funding for the lights. Michael Martin Murphey’s Cowboy Christmas Concert crowns the evening with its 8 p.m. performance at the Performing Arts Center. Additional support for this Furgason Bravo! Series concert comes from Whataburger, Inc., and KFTX 97.5 Real Country radio.
