Ethics Bowl Team Advances to Quarter-finals in National Competition

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was one of eight teams to advance to the quarter-finals during the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Championship Competition Thursday, Feb. 21, at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio. The team qualified for the national championship after taking first and second place at the Texas Regional Ethics Bowl held last November at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.

The national championship featured the top 32 teams from all regional competitions. Other schools in the national competition were Dartmouth College, Williams College, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Indiana University, the University of Washington, the University of Kentucky, the University of Florida, and the University of Colorado, the University of British Columbia, and the United States Military Academy at West Point.

The A&M-Corpus Christi team members were Miranda Debord, Amanda Dillon, Dustin O’Neal, Ashley Smith, Jacob Spicer, and Carolyn Voigt. Students Courtney Lee and Michael Cogan assisted the team in its preparation for the competition; and coaches and philosophy professors Andy Piker and Stefan accompanied the team.

Teams from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi have participated in all 10 of the Texas Regional Ethics Bowls, and have also participated in the National Ethics Bowl in each of the last 10 years. During that time, they have won four regional titles and a national championship, finished in the top 10 nationally four times, and brought home a total of 11 trophies.
