Dr. Philip Rhoades Chairs Topic at Annual SWACJ Meeting

Criminal Justice Professor Philip Rhoades organized and chaired a discussion on Port Security featuring local security professionals at the annual Southwestern Association of Criminal Justice (SWACJ) meeting at the Omni Marina Hotel in Corpus Christi Thursday, Oct. 4, through Saturday, Oct. 6. Dr. Rhoades is the president of the SWACJ, a professional organization of professors, researchers, practitioners, and students from Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi faculty and students making presentations included:

  Sergio Olivares, master’s of public administration graduate – “Are we really safe? A matrix-based approach to identifying potential targets for VBIED terrorist attacks.”
  Shelly Fox, criminal justice major –“The Evolution of Feminist Theory within Criminology.”
  Leslee Basse, criminal justice major – “Sweatshops: a Continuing Pandemic.”
  Dr. Melissa Jarrell, assistant professor of criminal justice – “Environmental Crime and Injustice: Media Coverage of a Landmark Environmental Case.”
