Theatre Program Wins Nine Awards at Regional Competition

Students from the University’s theatre program recently won nine awards at The Region VI Contest of the Kennedy Center American College Theater at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. The Region VI Contest included college and universities from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The award winners were:
- The Cast and Crew of “Anima Mundi” won the Directors’ Choice Award for best play.
- Daniel Mirsky, senior theatre major, was selected an Irene Ryan Scholarship Competition national finalist, Classical Acting Award winner for his scene from William Shakespeare’s “Richard III” and runner-up in the William Inge Festival Student Directing Competition.
- Marshall Carby, senior theatre major, won the Society for Stage Directors and Choreographers Student Director Fellowship.
- Ramon Gutierrez, senior theatre major, won the William Inge Theatre Festival Student Directing Competition for directing a scene from Wendy Wasserstein’s “The Heidi Chronicles.” Gutierrez will direct a scene from the play with actors Amanda White and Ryan Couch at the William Inge Theatre Festival in Independence, Kan., in April.
- Lisa Billings, junior theatre major, was runner-up in make-up design for “Moliere in Love.”
- James Brogger, senior theatre major, received an honorable mention for property design for “Moliere in Love.”
- Carlos Martinez, senior theatre major, received an honorable mention for make-up design for “Anima Mundi.”
Mirsky, his scene partner, senior Francesca Eaddy, and Carby will advance to the KCACTF national competition in Washington, D.C., in April.
